Instead, I know a little strategy that helps train you to be your own therapist. The good thing is, in many ways you already know how to do this. We could not survive the world if we didn’t have some basic ability to live in a rational way.
You will purchase a $20 workbook and attend sessions aimed at teaching you self-counseling skills that you can use throughout your life. In the beginning, it will be much like attending a class. You will receive instruction and self-help assignments which are intended to train you in cognitive behavior therapy.
This method follows a specific process, meaning that each session has a purpose. As opposed to talk therapy models, this helps us to stay on track with your goals and helps us to achieve them.
If you want therapy to be as short as possible, this program will be a quicker way to feel better. Even though it can be a shorter treatment strategy, you will not be asked to leave until we both agree that you have achieved the goals we set together. As a team, we will work towards having the life that works for you.
After your first appointment, you will begin learning rational living skills. There will be some time for venting at the end of your sessions, but this is not the goal of Rational Living Therapy. Venting, as a strategy, is shown to cause a worsening of symptoms in many cases. You will not be told how to live your life or what goals you “should” work on. I want to know what you want from life.
